Torrevieja is situated on Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante in southern Spain. It is washed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the salt lakes of La Mata and Salinas de Torrevieja (better known as Pink Lake).
There are many options to get to Torrevieja from abroad and other popular cities in Spain. There is no airport or railway station in the town. They are in a neighboring bigger city – Alicante. From there, most tourists get to Torrevieja by road.

The distance between Alicante airport and Torrevieja is 44 km.
Alicante Airport (ALC) is the most popular way to get to Torrevieja from abroad. The full name is Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport. It’s quite a new one. One terminal serves all international and domestic flights.
It should not be any significant difficulties with an orientation at the airport. But just to feel yourself a bit more confident on arrival – here is a short sample of the journey from Alicante airport to Torrevieja by a direct shuttle bus
Transport lines with nearby cities are well established. There are several ways to get to Torrevieja – by bus, taxi, or rent a car. There are also less obvious options.
Bus from Alicante Airport to Torrevieja
The direct bus from Alicante Airport to the Torrevieja bus station departs approximately every hour during the season. Here, for example, is the schedule as of June 2024:
The bus to Torrevieja does not run 24h a day. However, the airport itself does not work until late evening. There is little chance that your flight will arrive after 21:00. But in rare cases, you still have to use other options. In addition, there may not be enough seats for everyone on the bus during the high season. The route is operated by Costa Azul/Avanza.
Travel time: 50 min.
Price: 7€*. You can only purchase a ticket with cash on the bus. You can also buy it on the transport company’s website. But there you need to choose the exact departure time. If your flight is delayed, you may not make it. And whether they will be allowed on the next bus with such a ticket is not known for sure. You can also buy a ticket from Torrevieja to the airport at the box office at the bus station.
The bus is direct. There are no intermediate stops. It arrives at Torrevieja’s bus station, located in the city center at Calle del Mar, 40. At the exit from the bus station to Av. de las Habaneras, there is a public transport stop from which city buses depart to different districts of Torrevieja. Sabadell Bank is also located nearby, where you can withdraw euros at ATMs. As well as grocery supermarket Mercadona.
How to find the bus stop to Torrevieja at the airport?
You need to go up to the second floor by lift or escalator. Exit the terminal and turn right without crossing the road. You will see several stops. Buses depart to several popular cities of the Costa Blanca – Torrevieja, Alicante, Elche, Benidorm, Calpe, Cartagena, and Murcia. Each stop has the destination city name and the timetable.
The bus stop to Torrevieja is the first one. Other buses may also stop there. But to Torrevieja, as a rule, it is exactly the same as in the photo above – in the city brand colors, with the “Torrevieja” title.
Buses are comfortable. There is a luggage compartment.
The main part of the route is a highway. Delays there are unlikely. But in Torrevieja itself, in the high season, you can get into a traffic jam.
Taxi
A taxi from Alicante airport to Torrevieja costs about 55-60€*. There are also offers with higher prices. Uber, Bolt and similar services do not work here. It is impossible to order a taxi with a convenient application.
The official Alicante Airport taxi is Radio Taxi Elche – +34 (965) 458-257. There are taxi ranks on level 0 (arrivals area) and level 2. Cars are white.
You can also use Torrevieja’s taxi services. The main city taxi service is Radio Taxi – +34 (965) 712-277. Another option is Taxi Torrevieja 15 – +34 (659) 041-120.
Transfer
A transfer from Alicante airport to Torrevieja can be a cheaper option than a taxi. Prices may vary. It depends on the transport and the accommodation that provides this service. A private apartment owner can pick you up from the airport for 30€*. There is not a lot of sense to expect a lower price.
You can also pre-order a transfer online using the usual online services. The price is unlikely to be significantly lower than the cost of a taxi.
Car rental
Alicante Airport offers a wide range of car rental companies. Renting a car is not a problem. All major car rental services are present – Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, etc.

How far is Torrevieja from Alicante?
The distance between Torrevieja and Alicante is 50 km. You can get to Torrevieja by bus or taxi. Or by rental car.
When would you need information on getting to Torrevieja from Alicante, not from the airport?
• You arrived in Alicante by train from Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, etc. And it’s impossible to get to Torrevieja itself by rail because there is no railway station in Torrevieja. You have to get there by road.
• For some reason, you can’t get to Torrevieja directly from Alicante airport.
Bus
The bus from Alicante to Torrevieja departs from the Alicante bus station (Estació d’autobusos d’Alacant, address: Muelle Pte., s/n). Arrives at the Torrevieja bus station at Calle del Mar, 40. The route is operated by Costa Azul/Avanza. Some buses go through Torrevieja on to Cartagena. You need to get out on time.
Travel time: 1 hour 20 min.
Average interval during the season: 45 minutes. Can be more or less. For example, the weekday bus schedule from Alicante to Torrevieja in June 2024 is as follows.
Price: 5.1€*. You can buy a ticket at the bus station or for cash on the bus.
Bus stops: The bus makes 10 stops along the way. Including the urbanizations adjacent to Torrevieja – La Mata, Guardamar, Pinomar and La Rosa.
The distance between the Alicante railway station (Av. Salamanca, 1) and the Alicante bus station is 900 m. You can get there on foot or by bus number 6 for 1.45 € *.
You can get from Alicante airport to Alicante bus station by bus C-6. The stop is located to the right of the exit from the terminal on the second floor, near the bus stop to Torrevieja.
Taxi
The cost of a taxi from Alicante to Torrevieja is 70-80€*. For example, Radio Tele Taxi Alicante, the most popular taxi service in Alicante, will cost you around 75€* to get from the Alicante bus station or train station to Torrevieja.

Auto
You can get from Alicante to Torrevieja by car in a short way along the coast (N-332 highway). The distance is 50 km. Or take a detour away from the coast along with the A-70 and AP-7 highways. The distance is 68 km.
How to get from Murcia airport to Torrevieja?
Murcia International Airport (RMU) is located 62 km from Torrevieja and 25 km from the city of Murcia. The official name is Region of Murcia International airport. Bears the name of Juan de la Cierva. It’s also known as Murcia-Corvera airport.
Murcia Airport is not as popular an international hub as Alicante Airport. A relatively small number of tourists use it as an air gateway to Torrevieja, as it is inconvenient to get from it by public transport.
However, the current airport is new. It was built as a result of the growing passenger traffic. It started accepting flights in January 2019. It’s possible that its role will increase significantly soon and transport connections will improve. But at the moment, the easiest way to get from Murcia airport to Torrevieja is by taxi or rented car.
Until January 2019, the role of the international airport of Murcia was performed by San Javier Airport, located on the shores of the Mar Menor lagoon. It was much easier to get to Torrevieja than from the new airport. But now, San Javier is a military base of the Spanish Air Force. It no longer accepts civilian flights.
Bus
At the time of publication, bus services at the airport are not excellent, to say the least. Of the announced routes from Murcia Airport, buses to Mar Menor and Cartagena may be interesting to those traveling to Torrevieja. From there you can get to Torrevieja by bus. Although doing this hook does not make much sense. In addition, at the time of publication, all routes are temporarily suspended.
Taxi + Bus
One option to get from Murcia airport to Torrevieja is to take a taxi to Murcia bus station. And then on the BAM bus to go to Torrevieja. The bus runs several times a day. A taxi from Murcia airport to Murcia bus station costs approximately 30€*. Bus from Murcia bus station to Torrevieja bus station – 10€*.
Taxi + Train + Bus
Another option to get to Torrevieja is to take a taxi to Murcia del Carmen train station. Then take the C1 train to the Orihuela Miguel Hernández railway station. From there take the Costa Azul/Avanza bus to Torrevieja. In Orihuela, the bus stop to Torrevieja is located on the same square as the railway station.
Taxi
The cost of a taxi from Murcia airport to Torrevieja is 70-80€*. These are the prices of the local taxi service Mitaxi.net. There is also an official airport taxi – Radio Taxi Murcia – +34 (968) 248-800.
Auto
You can rent a car at Murcia Airport. There are car rental companies like Europcar, Sixt, Firefly, and Goldcar.
How to get to Torrevieja from Valencia?
The distance between Valencia and Torrevieja is 236 km. You can get to Torrevieja by bus or train and bus.
Bus
There is no direct bus between Valencia and Torrevieja. The ALSA bus takes you to Alicante. And then by Costa Azul/Avanza transport company from Alicante to Torrevieja. This route has already been described above.
Bus from Valencia to Alicante
Almost all buses in Alicante depart from the Valencia bus station at Carrer de Menéndez Pidal, 13.
Travel time: 2.5-3.5 hours. There are also routes with travel times up to 5.5 hours.
Interval during the day: approximately 1 hour.
Ticket price: 15-25€*.
Bus from Alicante to Torrevieja
Travel time: 1 hour 20 min.
Interval: 1-1.5 hours.
Price: 5.1€*.
Train + Bus
First option. Preferred. Take the Renfe train from Valencia to Alicante. Ticket price – 15-30€*. Travel time: 1-45 – 2 hours. Trains run about 8-10 times a day. The address of the Valencia train station (Estación de Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla): C. de Sant Vicent Màrtir, 171.
From the Alicante train station, you need to get to the Alicante bus station. The distance between them is 900 m. And then take the Costa Azul/Avanza bus to Torrevieja, as described above.
Second option. Take the Renfe train from Valencia to Orihuela. Ticket price – 20-30€*. Travel time: 3-3.5 hours. Trains run about 4 times a day, with very uneven intervals.
From Orihuela, take the Costa Azul/Avanza bus to Torrevieja. In Orihuela, the bus stop to Torrevieja is located on the same square as the train station.
How to get to Torrevieja from Valencia airport?
The most reliable option to get from Valencia Airport to Torrevieja is from Valencia’s bus or railway station. According to the instructions above, drive to Alicante and further to Torrevieja. From Valencia Airport you can reach the train and bus stations by metro, bus or taxi.
There is a direct bus from Valencia airport to Torrevieja in theory. It departs several times a day. But in fact, there is no information on the ticket for this route on the website of the ALSA bus company at the time of publication of this guide. Need to check.
How to get from Barcelona to Torrevieja?
How far is Barcelona from Torrevieja?
The distance from Barcelona to Torrevieja is 570 km. You can get to Torrevieja by plane, train and bus. After the plane and train, you will also have to use a bus or taxi.
Flight
Flights from Barcelona to Alicante operate daily. Usually around 4 flights a day. Flight duration – 1 hour 10 minutes. Flights are operated by the Spanish low-cost airline Vueling. In my subjective experience, this is a good airline.
The cost of air tickets from Barcelona to Alicante at a less convenient time of the day (morning or evening) is 25-40€*. At the best time (in midday), it can be around 60€*. We are talking about fares that include only hand luggage.
You can get to Torrevieja from Alicante airport by direct bus for 7€*. Or by taxi for 60€*. More about this is described above.
Air travel is perhaps the best option to get from Barcelona to Torrevieja.
Train
From Barcelona to Alicante you can take the Renfe train. It departs from Sants Train Station (Barcelona-Sants), which is located at: Plaça dels Països Catalans, 1, 7. From Barcelona Airport, it can be reached by metro or train. Buses from Barcelona Airport also stop at Plaça d’Espanya near Sants Station.
Travel time: 4.5-5.5 hours.
Interval: 1-3 hours. There are about 6 trains per day.
Price: approximately 33-60€. It’s the basic tariff (Basico). There are more expensive tariffs – Comfort (Elige) and Premium. You can also select a seat for an additional fee.
The cheapest places are usually quite comfortable except for seats located opposite each other. It’s very tight there. It’s better to take tickets in advance (about a month in advance, if possible) – this way they will cost much cheaper. And they sell out quickly during the season. There may not be any for the next few days, including the most expensive ones.
You can purchase train tickets online, from a vending machine or at the box office at the station. All options are relatively straightforward. However, it is worth noting that the Renfe site subjectively does not give the impression that someone cares about the user’s convenience there. And this is very polite wording. At the train station in Barcelona, the cashiers speak English. You will need your passport to buy a train ticket.
From Alicante to Torrevieja you can get by bus from the bus station, located 900 meters from the railway station. A bus ticket costs 5.1€*. Or by taxi – 70-80€*.
You can also get to Orihuela by train. From there by bus to Torrevieja. But it doesn’t make much sense. Since the journey is longer, there are fewer trains and the ticket will cost a little more.
Bus
To get by bus from Barcelona to Torrevieja, you first need to get to Alicante. And further by bus or taxi to Torrevieja. ALSA operates on the Barcelona-Alicante route, and Costa Azul/Avanza operates on the Alicante-Torrevieja route.
The bus from Barcelona leaves from the Barcelona Estación Nord bus station at Carrer d’Alí Bei, 78. Along the way, some buses also stop at Terminal 1 of Barcelona Airport. There are about five buses per day.
Price: 50€*.
Travel time: 7-9 hours.
Interval: 4.5-6 hours.
How to get from Madrid to Torrevieja?
The distance between Madrid and Torrevieja is 460 km. You can get to Torrevieja by plane, train and bus. After the plane and train, you will also have to use a bus or taxi.
Flight
Flights from Madrid to Alicante operate daily. Usually around 5 flights a day. Flight duration – 1h 05 min. – 1h 10 min. Flights are operated by the Spanish low-cost airline Air Europa and Air Nostrum (Valencian airline under the franchise of the leading Spanish airline – Iberia).
The tickets price from Madrid to Alicante is low only for the morning Air Europa flight – 25-30€*. The cost of other flights starts at around 60€*. We are talking about fares that include only hand luggage.
From Alicante Airport to Torrevieja you can get by bus for 7€*. Or you can go by taxi for about 60€*. It has been discussed in detail above.
Train
You can get from Madrid to Alicante by the Renfe train. It departs from the picturesque Atocha train station (Estación Madrid – Puerta de Atocha), located at Pl. del Emperador Carlos V. You get there from Madrid Airport by metro, C1 train or Airport Express bus.
Travel time: 2.5-3 hours. Some trains can go up to 4.5 hours.
Interval: 1-1.5 hours. There are about 14 trains per day.
Price: approximately 35-60€. This is the basic tariff (Basico). There are more expensive fares – Elige and Premium. You can also select a seat for an additional fee.
Bus
There is a direct bus from Madrid to Torrevieja. It departs from the Madrid Estacion Sur bus station at Calle Mendez Alvaro, 83. The bus station is located 2 km from the Atocha station. There is also one bus from Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas Airport. In total, about 4 buses depart a day.
Price: 37€*.
Travel time: 6-7.5 hours.
